Frequently Asked Questions

You probably have a lot of questions about how our process works and what to expect during your fittings. Scroll through these FAQs, and feel free to email us at howfittingalterations@gmail.com with any other questions you have!

#1 What do I bring to my first fitting

1. Bring any undergarments that you're planning on wearing with your dress including: bra, garments, underwear, & shape wear.

2. Bring the shoes you're planning on wearing. We will most likely pin your hem at your first fitting so make sure you have the exact pair of shoes you will be wearing. That way we get your hem exactly right!

3. Friends and family are welcome to join! We just ask that you limit your party to 2-4 people.

4. If you have any specific alterations you're wanting like neck line changes, sleeve changes, adding a belt or a bow please bring inspiration photos! That way your seamstress has a clear idea as to what you are wanting.

#2 How much should I expect to pay for my alterations

Each seamstress at How Fitting Alterations uses the same pricing rates!

Here's a breakdown of what each alteration looks like:

Shoulders: $150 - $400

Hem: $100 - $700

Replace Zipper: $100 - $200

Take in center back: $150 - $400

Gussets: $100 - $250

At your first fitting, your seamstress will break down the pricing for you, so you’ll know exactly what to expect. From there, you can decide if you want to go ahead with the alterations—no pressure! Just a heads-up, the fitting fee is non-refundable.

#3 How do my payments work

After your first fitting we ask for half down on your alterations. Your second payment will be expected at your pick up.

We take any major credit cards, debit cards, and venmo.

We do not accept cash.

#4 What if I want to make more changes to my dress after my first fitting

If you forgot to go over something with your seamstress at your first fitting don't be alarmed. Just know that whatever changes you add after your first fitting will incur additional fees depending on your seamstress and what their schedule is looking like. You can make changes just know you will have to pay for them.

#5 What if I'm not liking something. Will I offend my seamstress if I bring it up

During your fitting if you have questions please feel free to bring them up! You will not offend your seamstress if something isn't fitting right or isn't to your liking. We are here to help you with your vision. So please speak up! The only way we know that you're not liking something is to bring it up. ❤️
